Rio 2016 Olympic Park

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

The master plan focused on approximately 300 acres of land in the district of Barra da Tijuca, southwest of Rio. It includes three phases: the Rio Olympic Park during the 2016 Games, a transition plan, and the final arrangement displaying the site in legacy mode after 2016.

Participation in this first stage included liaising between the Rio2016 Venues and Masterplan teams, ensuring compliance with games’ operational requirements for overlay.

During the latest stage of development, Newton provided a technical advisory role for the city in the design and operation requirements of the venues, visiting the construction site regularly, assessing construction documentation from contractors, and operations plans from the Rio 2016 Organizing Committee.
